The following are 10 safety tips when handling fireworks:
1) Adult Supervision
Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks; use every item only under close adult supervision.
2) Read Directions
Read and follow all directions and warnings on labels before lighting.
3) Never Relight
Never try to relight or pick up a “dud” firework! If your fireworks frizzle or don’t go off, consider them duds and douse them with water.
4) Keep a Bucket
Keep a bucket of water or garden hose handy.
5) Flat Level Surface
Use fireworks outdoors only, always on a flat level surface, away from buildings, trees and other flammable and combustible materials.
6) Keep Distance
Make sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks.
7) Move Back Quickly
Never place any part of your body over the device when lighting. Light fireworks one at a time and move back quickly.
8) Never Throw Fireworks
Never throw or point fireworks at other people or animals.
9) Dispose Correctly
Dispose correctly. After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.
10) No Fireworks in Pocket
Never carry fireworks in your pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
